Yemeni Post in the Era of the Ottoman and British Occupations: In the modern era, the postal service was introduced to Yemen in 1839 AD in the city of Aden with the beginning of the British occupation of the city, where the first post office was opened in Crater district in the city of Aden in that year and then this office was transferred to Tawahi in 1868 AD, followed by the opening of a post office in the district of Sheikh Othman in the city of Aden in 1891 AD and the opening of a post office in the Khor Maksar district of Aden in 1892 AD in order to meet the needs of the British base, institutions and workers from foreigners and Indians who were serving the base and its members, and those offices were managed under the supervision of the British High Resident, and the conclusion of the protection treaty The British sultanates and sheikhdoms that existed in the southern and eastern governorates of Yemen, the emergence of the postal service in those governorates, where the purpose of the postal service was to meet the needs of the authorities of the sultans and sheikhs. While in the northern and western governorates of Yemen, regular postal services were introduced to them in 1868 AD, and appropriate laws were put in place for them, while Yemen was part of the Ottoman Empire, where a post office was opened in Sana’a in that year, followed by the opening of a post office in Taiz in 1871 AD. And a post office in the city of Hodeidah in 1873 AD and a post office in Manakhah in 1884 AD in order to meet the needs of government agencies and the authorities of the Ottoman occupation to a basic degree. Yemen and the Universal Postal Union: Yemen became an associate member of the Universal Postal Union in July 1875 AD under the supervision of the Ottoman Empire, and the independence of the northern part of Yemen from the Ottoman Empire after the Da’an Agreement in 1911 AD, and the recognition of its independence by the United Nations in an agreement Lausanne in 1919 AD, Yemen entered an independent member of the Universal Postal Union in 1930 AD, and the first Yemeni postage stamp was issued in 1926 AD, which was printed in a local printing press, and in 1930 AD the first Yemeni postage stamp was issued with international standards and standards that was printed in Germany. Yemen and the Arab Postal Union: In 1946, Yemen participated in the establishment of the Arab Postal Union as one of the five founding countries of the Union, in the first Arab Postal Conference held in Damascus, Syria.
